Azomalli (2024) speaks to Pedro Reyes’ sculptural investigation into hands and the gestures they make and equally the artist’s ongoing hopes for societal harmony. Carved in marble, this sublime sculpture simultaneously resembles the human hand and a dove, a universal signifier of peace. It is an allegory of the intensive labor that is required to bring peace to the world. The title is in Nahuatl - the ancient language of the Valley of Mexico - and translates to ‘peace’.
