Tony Cragg at the Reggia di Venaria, Turin
18 June 2022
A solo exhibition at the Reggia di Venaria palace in Turin marks Tony Cragg's return to Italy, with a presentation of ten sculptures in bronze, wood and steel set within the palace and its grounds.
Constantly pushing to find new relations between people and the material world, Cragg understands sculpture as a study of how material and material forms affect and form our ideas and emotions. The human figure represents the prime example of something that looks ultimately organic, eliciting emotional responses, while being fundamentally an extremely complicated geometric composition of molecules, cells, organs and processes. His work does not imitate nature and what we look like, rather it concerns itself with why we look like we do and why we are as we are.
This exhibition highlights the aspects of Cragg's works that explore the complex connection between figure, object and landscape.
'Tony Cragg' is on view until 9 January 2023. Find further information via the Reggia di Venaria.
