Station to Station at the Barbican
24 June 2015
As part of Doug Aitken's project Station to Station: A 30 Day Happening at the Barbican Centre, London, Pedro Reyes will conduct Spiritual Speed Date, a new piece characteristic of his large-scale projects affecting social and moral cohesion. Encounters will be convened, from 12-6pm on Saturday 27 - Sunday 28 June, between 16 representatives of different spiritual traditions. Expect to see a Rastafarian conversing with a Priest, a Hare Krishna engaging with a Rabbi or maybe a Sufist talking to an Anthroposophist.
Haroon Mirza and composer Shiva Feshareki are reworking his 2013 installation-performance piece The Calling using live vocals and instrumentation, sound responsive lighting and visuals (with ticketed live performance on the 3rd July). Mirza and post-industrial electronic producers Factory Floor also occupy the Recording Studio for the first week-long residency, developing and recording new tracks combining beats, synthesisers, electricity, video and noise.
Works by Allora & Calzadilla and Lawrence Weiner are also included in the month-long programme, a full list of which can be found on the Barbican’s website.
