Solo exhibition by Jonathan Monk opens at KINDL in Berlin
10 March 2019
Jonathan Monk’s solo exhibition ‘Exhibit Model Four - plus invited guests’ is now on view at the KINDL Centre for Contemporary Art in Berlin, Germany. The exhibition sees the walls of KINDL’s M1 exhibition space covered with photographs, mostly in black and white, that depict Monk’s own works from the past twenty years in the context of various exhibitions. These images are combined with Monk’s actual artworks, and objects by other artists gathered from his personal collection. The selected works - a readymade by Martin Kippenberger, a signed postcard by Gilbert & George, and a photograph by Dan Graham - alongside the two-dimensional photo installation offer a multilayered take on the conditions of exhibiting and presenting art. The interaction between the originals and reproductions of artworks negotiates fundamental questions around appropriation and authorship.
The exhibition runs until 21 July, with guided tour available to book on 16 March and 20 July. Read more via KINDL’s website.
