Shirazeh Houshiary in conversation at India Art Fair 2025 Talks Series 'Growing Focus', 7 February

Book tickets via India Art Fair
On 7 February, Shirazeh Houshiary will participate in a panel discussion ‘FROM INTROSPECTION TO IMPACT: ARTISTS SHAPING THE WORLD’ as part of the Growing Focus talk series at India Art Fair 2025, alongside artists Bharti Kher and Pushpamala N. The conversation will be moderated by Prof. Dr Thomas Girst, Head of Cultural engagement, BMW Group.
The IAF 2025 Talks Series, Growing Focus, is curated by independent researcher and curator Shaleen Wadhwana, and examines the increasing prominence of South Asia within contemporary art, design and culture. The series highlights the efforts of People of the Global Majority — comprising more than 80 per cent of the world’s population, with roots in Indigenous, African, Asian and Latin American cultures — who are asserting their presence across arts and cultural ecosystems. Amid the ongoing decentering of dominant ‘Global North’ narratives, it frames this moment not merely as a response to decolonisation but as landmark, historic self-determination.
Lisson Gallery's presentation at India Art Fair showcases Shirazeh Houshiary, highlighting two significant paintings spanning 15 years of her practice, alongside a floor-based sculpture, Cleave (2022), composed of Murano glass bricks in a palette evoking smoke and water. Houshiary’s paintings combine rigorous inscriptions with layers of sediment formed by pouring water mixed with pure pigment, exploring modes of perception that bridge the scientific and cosmic, and draw inspiration from a rich array of sources from Renaissance painting to contemporary physics and poetry.
