'Sean Scully: The Passenger – A retrospective exhibition' at Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb, Croatia
16 November 2022
Sean Scully’s 'The Passenger - A retrospective exhibition' opens today at the Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, Croatia, marking the final stop for the exhibition which began at the Museum of Fine Arts, Hungarian National Gallery in Budapest in 2020, and continued at the Benaki Museum, Athens and MAMbo, Bologna.
The Zagreb iteration of the retrospective is primarily a recapitulation adapted to the spatial specificities of MSU, but also, to a large extent, to the dialogue with its own heritage. Since its foundation in 1954, MSU has been passionately representing and promoting abstract art, and is globally recognised as one of the key centres of early computer art.
Featuring sixty-four of Scully’s seminal artworks – including canvases, works on paper, photographs and sculptures – the show presents a valuable cross-section of the painter’s work over the past 50 years. Alongside the exhibition will run a diverse educational programme will be organized for children, youth, adults, and persons with visual and hearing impairments, as well as different, thematically oriented guided tours.
The exhibition runs until 12 March 2023, with an opening night programme featuring a lecture by Scully taking place on November 16. Find further information via MSU.
