Richard Long to receive honorary doctorate from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Katowice, Poland

Richard Long is to be awarded an honorary doctorate by the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Katowice, Poland, on 21 May 2024.

The award coincides with the opening of an exhibition, organise by the Academy, entitled 'Adherence: Forgotten choreographies', in which a selection of artists from Poland present works that have used Long's work as a starting point.

The exhibition will combine the works of Richard Long with the activities of younger artists who perform a biopsy of the local area through their work. Long, for whom walking is a tool, technique and creative method, has inspired the participating artists to look at the archive of other movements in the field and the meanings associated with them.
