'Otobong Nkanga: Stitched Dreams' now published by Lisson Gallery
26 November 2024
Lisson Gallery is pleased to announce the publication of 'Otobong Nkanga: Stitched Dreams' edited with text by Omar Kholeif, Teju Cole, and Otobong Nkanga. The largest survey of Nigerian-Belgian artist, Otobong Nkanga’s drawings, paintings and poems in print.
Composed as an informal sequel to the artist’s first monograph with Kholeif, To Dig a Hole that Collapses Again, this handcrafted and richly illustrated book explores the scaffolding that underpins the manifold forms of creative output of Otobong Nkanga—an artist who has assumed a position as one of the most critically-acclaimed artists of her generation. Delving into the artist’s ritualistic practice of drawing, mind-mapping, and sketching, readers are invited to explore the cultural and historical references that inflect Nkanga’s interest in legacies of empire, the Earth natural resources, the weight of memory, and the human imagination’s possibility to conjure social change.
