Marina Abramović and CIRCA announce the artist's first performance in the Web3 space
18 June 2022
Expanding the concept of time-based media for a digital audience, unreleased material from The Hero (2001) by Marina Abramović will be presented by CIRCA this July (2022) on the energy efficient Tezos blockchain.
For her first performance in the Web3 space, Abramović is revisiting one of her most personal and autobiographical works. Filmed at 25 frames per second, unreleased material from The Hero (2001) has been separated into thousands of unique single frames, each one dramatically influenced by “the wind, the flag – they danced together, moving like a breathing organism,” as described by the artist in a recent interview with ArtNews.
Featuring never before seen footage from her archive, audiences will be invited to collect either a single unique frame (.JPG) or multiple unique frames (.GIF) to determine how The Hero 25FPS is minted on the blockchain.
The Hero is also being presented by CIRCA on London’s Piccadilly Lights and on screens around the world throughout June, July and August.
