Listen now: John Akomfrah on Purple and the Anthropocene for The Barbican's Talk Programme
13 May 2020
John Akomfrah joins Anthony Downey, Professor of Visual Culture in the Middle East and North Africa (Birmingham City University) to discuss his installation of Purple, an immersive six-channel video installation exploring climate change, human communities and the wilderness - and its link to the Anthropocene (the term coined by scientists for the geological age in which we are now living, a period defined by the influence of manmade activity on climate and the environment). This conversation took place on Thursday 12 October, 2017, and has been shared by The Barbican as part of a series of previously unpublished talks.
