Lisson Gallery returns to JINGART 2024
8 May 2024
23 – 26 May 2024
Booth A26
T-10 (4/F), SKP-S, Beijing
Lisson Gallery is delighted to participate in the fifth edition of JINGART with paintings by Allora & Calzadilla. Earlier this spring, the Puerto Rico-based artists debuted their China solo show, Gǎnyìng, at Lisson Shanghai. Lisson’s presentation at JINGART will zoom in on the duo’s Aeolian Charts, a new series of large-scale watercolor on paper that plot the shifting paths of wind: a force connecting people and places since the earliest days of human civilization.
The three Aeolian Charts featured in the booth highlight noteworthy climatological events spanning Chinese history. In a mesmerising expanse of blue hues, these paintings travel with their audience through time and nature’s forces: from the earliest recorded tropical cyclone landfall (Jufeng) in China to the severe winter of the Taihu Lake Basin during the Yuan Dynasty, and even to the mythical dwelling place of the Mount Potalaka.
Departing from a selection of discrete meteorological observations made at different moments in time, Allora & Calzadilla describe this watercolor series as an effort to “render visible uncharted relationships” across human and more-than-human forces, unraveling the essence of “what it means to be alive in the time and place one occupies”.
