Laure Prouvost's Venice Biennale exhibition tours to Les Abattoirs, Toulouse
21 January 2020
Laure Prouvost’s project for the 2019 Venice Biennale ‘Deep See Blue Surrounding You / Vois Ce Bleu Profond Te Fondre’ makes the first stop on its tour at Les Abattoirs in Toulouse, France, from 24 January. The immersive environment created for the French pavilion consists of objects and creatures in hand-blown glass, tapestries, paintings and vegetation and is structured around three main themes that provide reference points for the exhibition's development. These are generations and identities; the idea of disconnection, incomprehension and discrepancy by means of an exploration of language; and the representation of an escapist journey, both tangible and imaginary, towards an ideal elsewhere. At the cornerstone of the installation is Prouvost’s film They Parlaient Idéale (2019), which chronicles the surrealist journey of a group of musicians, magicians, actors and dancers through Europe, from Paris to Venice.
The exhibition is on view at Les Abattoirs until 31 May.
