'Laure Prouvost: In the fort, souls are’ at Mucem, Fort Saint-Jean, France
27 March 2025
From 2 April — 28 September, Mucem presents 'In the fort, souls are', an exhibition by Laure Prouvost that unfolds as a poetic journey through Fort Saint-Jean. Known for her immersive video installations and surreal storytelling, Prouvost reimagines objects from Mucem’s collection, transforming them into carriers of memory, magic, and metamorphosis.
Expanding her ongoing explorations of glasswork and underwater imagery, the artist has created a new film with snorkellers in the calanques of Marseille. Throughout the fort’s historic spaces—many of them rarely open to the public—installations materialise as encounters between art, heritage, and nature. A whirling sculpture atop the King René Tower signals the exhibition from afar, while within the chapel, casemate, and exhibition hall, Prouvost conjures a dreamlike world where objects, flora, and images appear and dissolve in a choreography of transformation.
