'John Akomfrah: A Space of Empathy' at Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, Germany

From 10 November 2023 to 28 January 2024, Schirn Kunsthalle presents the comprehensive exhibition 'John Akomfrah: A Space of Empathy', comprising three of the artist's multi-channel film installations.

Through it's presentaiton of The Unfinished Conversation (2012), Vertigo Sea (2015) and Becoming Wind (2023), this exhibition showcases the ways in which Akomfrah's work breaks with the idea of ​​linearity, and with the illusion of one truth. Critically examining colonial pasts, global migration and the climate crisis, often through simultaneous narratives, Akomfrah deals with the one-dimensionality of historical representations in his stories by creating a structure of multiple perspectives.
