Hugh Hayden announced as finalist for 2021 Burke Prize
23 September 2021
Hugh Hayden has been announced as a finalist for the Museum of Arts and Design's Burke Prize for 2021. The annual prize is awarded to a U.S.–based artist under the age of 45, working in the expansive fields of glass, fibre, clay, metal or wood.
Hayden was selected for his transformations of everyday items—a table and chairs, cast-iron skillets—that provoke viewers to think deeply about the objects they live with, the history and meaning of those pieces, and what they say about class, race, and the American dream.
A virtual exhibition of work by all finalists, 'Story Makers', is available to explore now on the MAD website.
