Haroon Mirza and Jack Jelfs release 'Sampler1' on their music and visual art platform OUTPUTS
1 December 2023
OUTPUTS, a platform for work overlapping the worlds of music and visual art founded by artists Haroon Mirza and Jack Jelfs, is proud to announce the release of ‘Sampler1’ on 1 December 2023. The release is a compilation album showcasing music by a mixture of internationally recognised luminaries and emerging visual artists, all of whom have been invited for the innovative use of music and sound within their practices.
Giving an open invitation to the artists involved, ‘Sampler1’ encompasses a spectrum of sonic approaches across eleven tracks including Marianna Simnett’s magical blend of flute, voice and electronics in Firefly to the haunting vocoder poetry of Eddie Peake’s My Love and the fragmentary electronic jazz of Jack Jelfs’ Morning Image (showcased by Mary Anne Hobbs on her BBC 6 Music show), via Chooc Ly Tan’s fusion of musique concrete and techno in Coeur Bioluminescent, David Toop’s recording of a shamanic ritual by the Amazonian Yanomami Wayamou tribe, and Cory Arcangel’s Steve Recihian white noise epic currentmood.
The digital release was preceded by three teaser tracks with accompanying videos, and the full album is now available on Bandcamp and major streaming platforms. The full list of artists featured is: Jack Jelfs, Marianna Simnett, Col Self, Rosa Barba, Chooc Ly Tan, Haroon Mirza & Helga Dorothea Fannon, Lucie Jelfs, David Toop, Seth Price, Eddie Peake and Cory Arcangel.
'Sampler1' is a fundraiser for OUTPUTS in order to commission new works. The digital album will be free to download and a single cut vinyl of each track will be made available on bandcamp to coincide with the release.
