Christian Jankowski wins Hamburg Finkenwerder Art Prize

Christian Jankowski is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Finkenwerder Art Prize and was awarded this honour on 1 June at the Airbus factory in Hamburg.

Since 1999, the aircraft manufacturer Airbus has awarded the Finkenwerder Art Prize to artists who have made an extraordinary contribution to contemporary art in Germany.

“In a statement, the jury honoured the multi-disciplinary artist whose performances, videos, photography and installations have investigated “the conditions and rules of the art world combined with the representation of pop culture in the media such as television and cinema.”

On the occasion of the award to Christian Jankowski, the Kunsthaus Hamburg shows a solo exhibition of recent works by the Berlin conceptual and media artist. The focal point of the exhibition is on works that deal with cultural representation, the current understanding of the culture of remembrance as well as the potential of culture as a means of conveying history.
