Arcangel Surfware Pop-up to open at Dover Street Market LA

Cory Arcangel is pleased to announce an upcoming pop-up installation at Dover Street Market Los Angeles. The specially constructed installation will be a facsimile version of Arcangel Surfware's Norwegian flagship store installed at Dover Street Market in downtown Los Angeles.Opened in 2018, Arcangel Surfware’s flagship store is located in a historically protected storefront in Stavanger, Norway’s Øst neighborhood. Just 30 seconds from the waterfront, the 34 sq meter space—a former canning factory, and more recently rifle shop—was designed by Arcangel Surfware founder Cory Arcangel. Dover Street Market LA will feature signature elements from the flagship — dump bins, baby monitors, grid wall, computer store carpet, along with artworks by Arcangel. In this specially constructed pop-up, Arcangel Surfware will premiere it's 2019 Scanner Painting capsule collection — a new line of hand sewn frequent flyer neck pillows, as well as two new tee-shirts. All of which are based on Arcangel's recent scanner painting series.
The Arcangel Surfware frequent flyer neck pillows are hand sewn, manufactured in Stavanger, Norway, and assembled in Brooklyn, New York. Each pillow is a unique design and uses fabric up-cycled from scraps left over from textiles Arcangel has used to create artworks from his scanner painting series — a series of work featuring textile scans printed with UV ink on IKEA Linnmon tabletops.
The pop-up will also debut two new tee shirts featuring 4 color silkscreen prints of two of Arcangel's past scanner paintings. In addition, the pop-up will showcase items from the past 3 years of Arcangel Surfware production. Items will include sweat pants and hoodies from the 2015 & 2016 Fuck Negativity series, multi-function scarfs, vinyl, as well as magazines and books published by the brand.
“Not only do we not have a web-shop, its also very very very hard to visit our store — as we are only open 3 hours a week — and quite remote on the far east side of the oil town of Stavanger, Norway. Therefore I jumped at this change to duplicate the experience — for a brief time — in LA. As we would say in Stavanger, 'Vi ses!'. Which means, 'see you!'", says Arcangel.
