Announcing global representation of Shanghai-based artist Li Ran

Lisson Gallery today announces global representation of Shanghai-based artist Li Ran. Li’s first solo exhibition with Lisson will be presented at the gallery’s New York space this June, unveiling a body of new work. While Li has gained renown for his video installations, he also explores performance, painting, installation and writing. In recent years, he has been surveying antagonist roles in theatre, stage art, make-up design and the production of foreign and espionage films created in China since the 1950s.
Li’s work has been exhibited at museums internationally, including Centre Pompidou, Paris; Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin; The Museum of Moscow, Moscow; Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, Geneva; NTU Center for Contemporary Art Singapore, Singapore; UCCA, Beijing; CAFA Art Museum, Beijing; HOW Museum, Shanghai; Sifang Museum, Nanjing. He also participated in Montreal Biennale, Montreal (2014); Biennale of Moving Images, Geneva (2014); The 4th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, Moscow (2014); CAFAM Biennial, Beijing (2014); The 4th "Former West" Project, Berlin (2013); The 9th Gwangju Biennial (2012), Gwangju; The 7th Shenzhen Sculpture Biennale, Shenzhen (2012). He was awarded the "Best Artist Award" at the Moscow International Youth Art Biennial in 2014 and was nominated for the "Future Generation Award" by the Pinchuk Arts Center in 2017. His work is currently on show in ON/OFF: Carousel of Progress at the He Art Museum, Shunde, China.
