Set against a surreal background with barren trees and swirling faces, the painting portrays the conversation between two chatterboxes steeped in melancholy, either about death, or about candles and roses.
The artist writes: “We argued all night, only to settle on the use of some quotation marks throughout the text. It was the first time for us to have such a ridiculous conversation, but she just loves to grasp onto these details, things that are completely out of my league. I just can’t win these arguments. It’s just a few words, a few sentences! I will never become an editor like her. I remember her pointing at me with a pile of drafts, telling me that within the quotation marks, there are infinite connotations...”
