Masaomi Yasunaga
Shanghai, 22 February – 19 April 2025
For his solo debut in China, Masaomi Yasunaga presents a new body of experimental ceramic work, including a series of vessels placed on pedestals and tablets displayed on the gallery walls. As a student of the avant-garde ceramic group Sodeisha which translates as ‘crawling through the mud society’, Yasunaga extends the theme of ‘stepping on the earth’ to the presentation in Shanghai, tracing the action of the viewers and the passing of time. Known for adopting glaze as his primary material, the Japanese sculptor continues to question the mandate of functionality within the ceramic medium and craft a new sculptural philosophy.
