In Haroon Mirza’s Solar Cell Composition series, a constellation of solar cells is installed on a transparent glass panel, with a circuitry of wires that connect to a strip of LEDs. The cells are arranged in an eight-point star, considered to be a sacred geometry in many traditions and cultures. The LEDs shift in colour and brightness as the light levels around them change.
In the centre of the composition is a juxtaposition of circuitry and a section of an Echinopsis Peruviana, commonly known as San Pedro cactus, known worldwide as supplements to various transcendence practices through their psychotropic qualities and used for spiritual purposes including meditation and psychedelic psychotherapy.
