Set against Yu Hong’s characteristic golden ground, a mass of intertwined aged tree roots floats upside down amidst turbulent water waves. A man, appearing astonished yet bewildered, fixates upon these roots, seemingly immersed in contemplation.
The inspiration for this piece originates from Yu Hong's firsthand observation during a coastal excursion, where she witnessed driftwood pieces being repeatedly washed ashore by the relentless sea. These lifeless remnants evoke a myriad of reflections, conveying both a sense of mourning for lost life and echoing the impact of the environment on human condition.
